Extracts from Tutchin's Observator and Heraclitus Ridens relating to the theatres and other places of public amusement in London, [17--?].

Manuscript consisting mainly of extracts from the Observator, a political periodical which John Tutchin edited from 1702-1707. A print of an engraved portrait of Tutchin is inserted as a frontispiece on the verso of leaf [4], followed by a biographical sketch of Tutchin, signed Caulfield ([2] leaves). The remainder of the volume contains the extracts, including satirical dialogues containing political commentary as well as comments on the theater, and a few poems. The leaf following the last page of text has a mounted print of a rectangular engraving showing a political writer in the stocks. Bound in half morocco with marbled covers and endpapers and a contrasting spine label which reads: Places of public amusement, London, 1703-6.
